Haunted Lighthouses – Light Mirador

The Point Lookout Lighthouse is located on a peninsula that marks the entrance to the Potomac River in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. The area was known as a nice vacation spot before the Civil War. Originally part of the grounds of St. Michael, which was held by the first governor of Maryland. This item was used as a summer ski resort, with beach houses and docks. The addition of the lighthouse was used to add the charm of the region.

In 1825, the federal government has determined that the light should be built on Lookout to warn ships of banks and to mark the entry of the Potomac River.

The lighthouse was built in 1830 as a year and a half story wood and masonry construction. The first lighthouse was of little use in navigation has not withstood the lantern of 24 feet above the ground. It was rebuilt in 1883 from the present two two-story buildings and the light was increased to 40 feet.

A fog bell was added in 1872 and updated in 1889. In 1883, the second floor was added to the house to allow housing to house two keepers and their families. In 1927 the house was enlarged to its current size and converted into two separate apartments, each with six bedrooms and a bathroom. Electricity has also been added around the same period.

Civil Archers agreement followed the light to full-time until 1979, although he had been transferred to the Coast Guard in 1939. In 1951, Marina began buying and building property in around the lighthouse. In 1965, the light went out and the structures completely returned to the Navy.

The Civil War changed the whole starting point instead of a pleasant vacation in a spot marked with permanent reminders of what happened in the landscape. Hammond General Hospital was built in 1862 to treat soldiers wounded in the Union. The following year, the EU began to hold Confederate prisoners to hospital. Consequently, Camp Hoffman, the most important civil prison camp war was built near the hospital. The camp prisoners about 20,000 prisoners at one point. The prison grounds were dirty, overcrowded and has quickly into a breeding ground for disease.

When all was said and done, nearly 4,000 men were killed in the field of disease, hunger or exposure. Their bodies were buried in different places in or near the ground beacon. Years later, when these graves were threatened by erosion, were transferred to a location just north of Point Lookout.

The trauma and death associated with the camp may help explain many strange phenomena happened paranormal were reported by the lighthouse keepers and visitors in recent years, thus earning the title "flagship of the most haunted in America."

In the years following the end of the war, the attack of the reports of paranormal incidents in the region began. It was reported strange noises, as no, snoring, unpleasant odors, lights on and off, disembodied voices and the exercise of the talks, laughing, singing happy songs or even help. A woman woke in the night someone called his name, but nobody was there. Some of these strange sounds were actually recorded by the paranormal researchers in recent years.

Besides the sounds, there have been many reports of apparitions. The most popular of the apartments was reported that the lighthouse keeper in the first place, Ann Davis, who was seen standing on top of the stairs, with a long navy blue skirt and white shirt, his normal everyday clothing.

Reported figures also transparent, possibly in a civil war uninforms, move in the basement and the reasons for roaming outside the research flagship Apparently, their graves were moved more than a century before.

Paranormal investigations are ongoing for years in the Point Observation. As mentioned earlier, some researchers have reported evidence of sound from another world, the comings and goings. Audio Evidence presented twenty-four eminating separate vote on various places around the lighthouse. The votes were men and women speaking and singing. A voice believed to be that of a custodian of the Union in the field of detention, was recorded saying: "If the fire is too close to home." Another seems to be that of former goalkeeper Ann Davis, said: "My house".

In 2002, throughout the Navy launched a completely out of the lighthouse restoration. The structure was painted according to your color scheme 1927. The lighthouse was handed over to the State of Maryland in 2006. Some months later, the Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society was formed to raise funds to restore the lighthouse and making it accessible to the public as a museum.

The lighthouse is owned by the Navy and is currently closed and not freely accessible to the public. Around Halloween, the place is open from time to time during the day of doors open and sometimes in the evening for a night of limited duration of the paranormal investigations.
